Hero section model

The supplied model required work on its joints and individual components. The upper rotating part was remodelled, while the lower body's geometry was refined around the existing construction.

Connections between metal parts were improved for close viewing. Moving components were separated into independent objects to prepare the handwheel animation.
Preparation for Three.js
Geometry was allocated according to its contribution to the silhouette. The handwheel's rounded edges received more polygons, while the raised lettering and surface details were transferred from the high-resolution model into textures.

The model, baked textures and animation were handed over to the front-end developer. On the website, the handwheel's rotation is linked to page scrolling.

Product range

Models for the product series were created from photographs, drawings and additional references. Particular attention was given to joints and transitions between surfaces: glossy materials and close camera angles make geometric imperfections especially visible.

Views were selected for each product type to explain its construction while keeping the series consistent. The final set contained around 50 images, including colour variants.

Materials and lighting

The procedural materials developed for the key visual were refined for the product renders. Dark glossy surfaces and orange elements connected the different items to the website's visual style.

Differences in shape could make the same material appear lighter, darker or less textured. Lighting was adjusted for each model to maintain comparable brightness, highlights and detail throughout the series.

Additional CGI film

A CGI film featuring three product models was created to present and promote the project. Each model appears in several shots with smooth camera movement.

Close-ups reveal the products' shapes, connections and material qualities.

03 — Scope
The hero section and product image series presented the engineering range in a consistent visual style. Geometry preparation supported two uses: a model running in the browser and detailed product renders.

Coordinated materials and individual lighting adjustments maintained consistency across products with substantially different shapes.
05 — Outcome
I prepared the supplied model for the hero section: reworking geometry, separating moving parts, creating materials and animation, baking textures and preparing the asset for Three.js.

For the product series, I modelled the items from photographs and drawings, set up lighting and produced the renders. The designer supplied a product list with visual examples; I sourced additional references independently. I also created a CGI film for Chipsa's presentation of the project.
02 — My role
VK Engineering supplies engineering products, including couplings, valves and other piping components. The website needed to present products of different shapes and complexity within a consistent visual style.

The hero section centred on a model with a rotating handwheel, animated in response to page scrolling. The product image series extended this approach through a dark glossy finish and orange accents.
